| I should have said that I agree that obnoxious dogs have no place. |

Regarding the incident that happened with the pitt or rott whichever it was. I wonder if the pitt started the fight or if the poodle did. I have a large dog, and for some reason he gets attacked often. He once broke a toe running backwards from a 15lb dog. (He's about 130). The problem is that small dog owners don't always understand the consequences of what their dogs can do. Even though they're small and can't do any real physical damage...if you're not paying attention to your tiny dog bc you don't see how it could possibly hurt anyone but your little dog attacks my big dog and say I have a dog that would fight back (maybe one day mine will) and my big dog hurts your little dog. Who will get blamed? The big dog.

And I think "Stupid bachelor who never learned his manners." Or "Damn the squatters, why can't they just sit on the seat like everyone else." Never dawned on me to assume it was a male child. |
| I've got two large, friendly, well-trained dogs and I walk them everywhere in my neighborhood, because what else am I supposed to do? I live here and I've got a right to walk my dogs on the sidewalk. Part of living in an urban setting is sharing it with others, including their children, pets, bikes, etc. If you don't like it you would probably be happier in the suburbs or the country. I always keep my dogs on a short leash close to me, I always clean up after them, I never bring them to any indoor public places or anywhere where they are prohibited, and I never leave them tied up unattended. They have no opportunity to approach someone who does not approach them first. I do everything in my power to keep them contained and obedient, but I'm not going to keep them locked up inside just to make someone else more comfortable. |
If you cannot take proper care of them why did you get them in the first place? |
oh pleeease! most of our kids...and those of us who are working are also couped up during the work week. It doesn't mean you're the next select for a Guantanamo prison guard. The schedule is pretty standard. But yes, we want to let our dogs out on the weekend and possible some mornings or evenings. I don't bring my dog where I shouldn't and I don't tie him up, but I'm going to walk him on a leash, outside, wherever I please. |
| Are the majority of you being obtuse, or do you just don't comprehend that the OP is talking about dog owners who bring their dogs to crowded events, festivals and playgrounds? |
Sure, I see that from her original post, but then others chime in with their own thoughts and take it one (maybe 5) steps further. |
| Some playgrounds are right next to off-leash dogparks, which make it very difficult not to let your dog near kids. For example, the Livingston Park has a fenced in playground right next to a morning-only off-leash dog park. There is a section of the kid's park that is not separated by a fence, though, it is for older children only. Either way, exiting or entering the park in the morning can result in brief contact between dogs and kids. |
| One of my dogs is stubborn. I use a Halti collar (looks like a horse lead) so she can't gain control. If I was concerned she may bite, I'd put a muzzle on her. These are responsible things to do as a pet owner. Not walking your dog is not responsible. |
| The dog shot at Adams Morgan Day was not a pit bull. It was a shar pei. |
Did you see the picture? If there was any shar pei in that mix, it was so far down the family tree as to be the equivalent of my Mayflower ancestors. I know the WP headline said that, but pictures don't lie. It was a pitbull, plain as day. The WP has now changed its headline to say "dog". Check it out: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/12/AR2010091203938.html?hpid=sec-metro (you may have to click to the second picture to see the dog's face). |
Whatever it was, it was fugly. |
No, the poster included patio seating at restaurants, stores, and "busy" sidewalks. She's basically talking about the non-park areas of a city. |
| 14:48 What about all the gallons of dog urine that is ruining the soil? |
