Just make sure you give other activities a try if there are any that she seems interested in in and that would benefit from an early start. Music is a good example.

Some of it depends on the kid. Mine takes things seriously and would not enjoy a once weekly rec program that’s less challenging. Other kids are generalists and want to do multiple different activities. IMO both ways are fine!

Anyone at the Kennedy Center audition today? DD is so excited to start!

I've often wished dance could get its own forum on here. Seems weird that it gets lumped in with summer camps etc. Maybe it could get grouped with the other sports forums?

I mean if Soccer, Lacrosse, Swim and Basketball all have them, why not dance?? My DD says all the time Ballet is a Sport!

I sent a request for a sub to website feedback and the response was that dance/performing arts is too narrowly focused for a forum. But basketball isn't. Ok then. 🙄

DS wanted to audition but was a bit too young for the age cutoff.

Only someone NOT in the dance world would think that

They had the kids get registered by "tall kids group" and "small kids group"
Brought them into the audition room, taught them a small bit of choreography that they did in smaller groups. Had some kids do it multiple times, other just once or twice and wait to the side.
I forget how many waves they dismissed in - maybe 3?
Had it down to the final groups and cut the final 3-5 kids (which was heart breaking for those kids cut so close to the end!)

Then they gave us all info packets with where to show up the next day

Interesting! I hope the dancers selected have a great experience and those who didn’t make it get another chance some other time.

Anyone at Berrend? They suddenly closed due to a dispute with the landlord. All classes have been cancelled. Parents have no idea what is going on. It is very disappointing.

My daughter spent several high school years at MBT and was very happy there. She also attended the Richard Montgomery international baccalaureate program, played piano with private lessons and Viola in the school and Pit Orchestras as well as maintained a presence in several school clubs. While she did not do the pre-professional track, she had a wonderful experience there and the community is very diverse. I have no hesitations about recommending it. She is currently at an SLAC and able to continue both her music and dance passions while working towards an academic major. I think MBT has a nice middle ground between serious professional dancing and having fun with your friends. Her closest HS friends are from MBT.

We would also like to know. The lack of communication, or care for the kids, is shocking. My daughter is so sad. It's never been the best run place, but this is really unprofessional (to say the least).
