ADHD and initiating writing

This was the number one area where we saw improvement with meds - being able to control thoughts enough to start a task like writing.

Teaching ‘how’ to write, not just keep saying write about this topic, etc.

He is too young for you to worry about him getting dependent on you. Trust me, it'a an along haul, and he will grown and change and take over more as his brain develops. Remember the ADHD brains is about 2 years behind in attention related skills (not intelligence) until age 25. Give the help needed when it's needed.


OP here- thank you for this. I needed to hear this perspective.

The med perspectives have also been helpful even though I don’t think we are quite there yet.

I also really found the IEP language useful for ideas of ways his teacher can support him.
