Is Tamiflu worth it?

She was miserable and opted to take it, vomited up the first dose, but kept down the others and was markedly better in 24 hours, seemed 100% by 48 hours. Seems a coin flip whether to take it or not. Is your DS old enough to make the decision?

Adding the pediatrician said it worked if taken within the first 36 hours so if he is past that, I'd skip it.

Paxlovid gave me I-cant-breathe rebound, but Tamiflu is great prophylactic. Taken after flu starts, however, I'm not sure if it worked for me at all.

Same PP. I misunderstood original post. Tamiflu made my daughter vomit, so I would pass for my kid, but take it myself prophylactically

Tamiflu can shorten the duration of the flu symptoms, but typically only if you take it at the early onset of your symptoms

ER doc and hate Tamiflu--terrible side effects (in particular for kids). Xofluza is the way to go if you can find it.

The thing about Tamiflu is beating the clock and taking it quickly after diagnosis which is not always an easy feat by the time you're pretty sure it's the flu sometimes it's already been 24 hrs and then you gotta line up a visit to test and confirm maybe see which kind. Its helped me only if I took it by 2nd day before 48 hrs. That's such a big deal otherwise if you're taking it after 3 days I mean you're gonna get better by 5th. DD kicked it at age 10 in 3 days. So it's all relative and I suppose it depends on your body everyone is different and hard to know unless you go through it.

NP here. I just put my kid on it and the fever was gone with 2 doses. It tastes really bad, but no nausea. Really seems like it's worth it. Doc wouldn't prescribe xofluza when I asked. This thread has really helped. Thank you everyone.

Is it hard to find Xofluza?

I couldn’t deal with the stomach cramps so I stopped taking it. Stuff usually starts happening on day two.

My 4 year old was prescribed it this morning. CVS had to call around to different locations to find it. He threw it all up within an hour of his first dose.

I took it last time I had the flu and it did seem to shorten the severity and duration.

For the nausea, the first dose did make me quite nauseous. I then read somewhere (maybe on here) to take it with dairy. This sounded bogus to me but I figured I had nothing to lose so tried having a few bites of ice cream first before taking. No more nausea. I don't know why this worked but it did.

That happened to my son too but it still worked

yes. DC1 didn't have it; was sick for 4 days (in bed, didn't eat). Kid 2 took Tamiflu immediately and has a cough but otherwise fine. A little tired.

I was diagnosed with flu and covid on Thursday evening. I took Tamiflu beginning that evening and feel 100% better today (Sunday) — fever is gone, and I feel well enough to eat.

I would not give it to a kid because of the night terrors and hallucinations but I would take it as an adult if I could get it very quickly. Otherwise not worth it.
