Well they told all their employees they should feel free to resign tomorrow. And many of the people who process passports probably have good basic administrative skills and can get other jobs. They also don't live in the DC area, so their region won't be flooded with new out of work competition. I'd think the number of those folks taking the BS deferment offer may be high, relatively speaking.

As a fed, the vast vast majority of us did not take the stupid deal. Feds are committed folks. Don’t get me wrong things are a mess and Elon will likely cause some delays but passport staff are not going to resign in mass tomorrow. They want to keep their jobs. I know zero from my agency taking the deal. I have an appointment for my kids Friday I’m hopeful things will still be processed ok

I guess then again he may start firing us on Friday so that may put a wrench… so you may be right. But not because we’re resigning!

I'd renewed mine online on 1/22. Received 2/3 with two weeks turn around.

I suspect that the chaos will affect processing times. With the way things are headed, there will eventually be reduced staffing and that will certainly have an impact. Fortunately we haven’t made travel plans yet.

My guess is that fee based services will be some of the last to get throttled.
