New sport

Your son sounds like my son, who is now in college.

We encouraged swimming, because it's an advantage to be tall and strong, and there is no hand-eye coordination involved. He did a club swim team and summer swim team. Then he was on his high school team. I think it built a lot of confidence in him, even if it's not the most "fun" sport (as it's a lot of face down in the water.)

We also encouraged crew, as we thought he would be great at that. He did a one-week crew camp in middle school and really hated it for some reason. I think that the coaches expected all of the kids to catch on quickly, and my son could not do that. I wish he had had a better into to crew, as that seems like a great sport.

He is more social than competitive, and is motivated by being part of a crew or doing something right or having fun. He probably won't practice much on his own. He looks athletic and has tons of energy but is not overly passionate.

Just wondering with that profile what people think might be the best fit!

(Honestly just curious, dont bash me please)

You literally say crew in your post.

I would also consider volleyball (now a HS varsity sport in FCPS), a tall kids with good vertical can add value as a blocker.

Wrestling

Starting at this age would give him a huge leg up around here. He doesn’t have to do it year round to be successful.

Another vote for volleyball - tall kids, especially at young ages, are quite valuable.
