Data from Kennedy (2022-2023) linked above confirms:

70%+ FARMs (and I’m sure it’s only increased)

Less than 5% White which means the school isn’t in fact diverse—it’s 70%+ Hispanic.

Poor planning on the county’s part when it surrounded the school with so many garden apartments. The surrounding SFH neighborhoods have an over abundance of rentals as well. It’s become a low-income majority area with a significant amount of crime, gang activity, drugs, and trafficking.

I know a retired school safety officer who said Kennedy has legitimate crime issues.

Fwiw, I grew up in the area a long time ago and it’s shocking to see how far it has devolved.

I did also. It's a real shame. The houses in those neighborhoods used to be solid middle class and definitely not rentals.

There was a security meeting with MCPS last week at the school after a lockdown and shelter in place in January. "Ultimately, the Principal makes the decision to call a lockdown even when MCPD may tell them it isn't necessary." Really? Who is in charge?

Fwiw, a lot of people move out of the area if they can’t afford private school.

And even if you can afford private, there’s no guarantee you can get in. There were 1,500 (roughly) applications for 300 (roughly) seats at Good Counsel as well as St. John’s, making it nearly impossible to switch to private.

Principal of two years is retiring. It's amazing developers have yet to take over that neighborhood.

The principal runs the school and should be in charge of the decision. The principal should listen to the advice of all who have relevant advice to give, like MCPD. But ultimately the principal is responsible for the outcome so the principal should make the decision. It’s the right policy.

Broadcast journalism program is supposed to be good and they one of only two high schools that offer the Teacher Academy of Maryland.

Any data on the stats for those grads?

I’d love to see their SAT and ACT scores.

Given the newer teachers my 4 kids have had in mcps schools, I’m convinced mcps needs a complete overhaul.
