Rotation or Spanish in middle school

You have to take language in sixth grade to be eligible to apply for IB programs in high school. That’s why we did it, even knowing the problems it can cause in high school that are identified above.

So like MCPS to push kids into class in sixth grade without thinking it through ! Two years of foreign language should be sufficient for IB applicants, and then the problem would be eased.

Not if they get to AP, which they could do in junior year by starting language in 6th grade.

At our middle, that just gets you to AP in 12th. Spanish and French 1a is 6th grade and 1b in 7th. Our middle no longer allows 6th and 7th graders to do 1ab in one year.

This is because they don't want to offer 3 in MS?

My middle school was the same. You don't take 1a/1b in the same year. My kid also had rotation of arts with a language starting in 6th grade.

I don’t know. But I actually like the option. I think the slower pace is better for most 6th graders and allows more conversational practice time.
