Is it normal for fairly peripheral government officials like Fauci, Bolton and Pompeo to get a lifetime's worth of secret service details? It makes sense for former presidents and perhaps vice presidents. But even then. Is the secret service still shadowing Dan Quayle? That man cashed in and is worth many millions and can certainly manage his own security. It's surely not the norm for every muckety muck to get secret service details for decades after leaving government. |
They might get such a significant amount of credible threats that warrants it. |
No, of course it's not normal. Only those who are receiving threats for doing their job receive protection. Unless Trump doesn't like them. |
Agree. He does not need a govt funded security detail anymore |
Not at all. |
“Will no one rid me of this troublesome ____?”
This is how it starts, and Trump will feign ignorance when it happens. |
Fauci has security. It’s just that taxpayers are no longer on the hook for it. |
Way to miss the point. |
Neither do Trump's adult children besides Barron. I hope they're not getting a single thing on the government dime. |
I think this is horrifying and shameful. After a lifetime of fearless service, he deserves security detail and much more. |
God forbid it happen, but if Fauci gets murdered by some MAGA nutjob, Trump needs to be prosecuted as an accessory to the murder. |
It is taxpayers who he is in danger from. Seems only right that taxpayers should pay for his security. |
If there's a credible threat, then it's warranted. I don't know who's threatening Pompeo or Bolton, haven't seen much about that on any online forums, but I've definitely seen a lot of unhinged RWNJ vitriol, hate and threats directed at Fauci online. |
You could say that about anyone in government who has experienced a death threat. If there is one, you investigate and prosecute. You don’t provide taxpayer provided security for every instance for all of time going forward. |
I don’t believe any adult kids of presidents get secret service? I’m pretty sure that has always been expected to be privately paid. |
