Kindergartner coming home on "yellow"-thoughts?

I work in an ES and I agree that yellow should not be cause for concern as it is just a warning or reminder that the student needs to think about the choices they are making. K students are brand new to a school and need to learn what behavior is appropriate and what is not and many of them learn by doing (mine included). Mine just started K too and I was surprised that he has been staying on green each day. His teacher said the kids either start off testing the limits or wait a few weeks and then start testing. Some never test. He said he would only send a form home if the student ended the day on red. In the classrooms where I work, teachers do change kids to yellow but then remind and encourage them back to green. The younger a student is, the more impulsive they tend to be (mine included) so good teachers tend to talk a lot about stopping and thinking before they act.

Watch out though if your DS has ADHD - impulsive type. Rough days ahead for you and your family. We have been there.

DD in K in MoCo. they had red-yellow-green-blue in the classroom the first week. We've tried to implement something like it at home, and it's been very helpful. Does anyone know where I might be able to find the standards applied in the classroom?

You could always ask the teacher in an email or a note.

Agree with pp, the color red-yellow-green-blue method has worked really well at home with our DS. He was testing time outs and they just working for us. The color method seems to appeal to his needs and ours much better.
