Er, no. Progesterone is the the one that is conclusively linked to breast cancer.

Estrogen is correlated with endometrial cancer.

Yes, a small risk in both cases. But you're way ass backward in thinking progesterone "protects against cancer."

Hmmm, DP here. I was told that progesterone keeps the lining from building up caused by the continued estrogen. And that the build up of the uterine wall is what can cause cancer. Ergo, if progesterone is keeping it from building up, then it is protecting from cancer.

I also thought it was pretty clear that women with a uterus should never take estrogen on its own without progesterone, because it increases the risk of certain cancers, I guess uterine and maybe others. So in that sense yes it is protective.

.

Re-read what I wrote. Search for the word “breast.” Reacall that breasts are different from a uterus.

I took Menostar with monthly course of progesterone and Vagifem tabs for 11 years starting at 60. I had lost 40 pounds and losing the fat estrogen effect made me have horrible hot flashes.
I would have used them forever but I got cancer.
The "second menopause" withdrawal from Menostar was quick and brutal. Vaginal atrophy, dry genitals that made it painful to sit, urinary leaks. I never know how good I had it all those years. I started topical Estrace last summer. Helps a bit.
