I also thought it was pretty clear that women with a uterus should never take estrogen on its own without progesterone, because it increases the risk of certain cancers, I guess uterine and maybe others. So in that sense yes it is protective. |

I took Menostar with monthly course of progesterone and Vagifem tabs for 11 years starting at 60. I had lost 40 pounds and losing the fat estrogen effect made me have horrible hot flashes.
I would have used them forever but I got cancer. The "second menopause" withdrawal from Menostar was quick and brutal. Vaginal atrophy, dry genitals that made it painful to sit,urinary leaks. I never know how good I had it all those years. I started topical Estrace last summer. Helps a bit. |
