Anyone have a big Lab that exceeded longevity projections?

I am sorry for your loss. Like every dog owner, it is hard to even think about losing your pup. Mine is 10 and I can’t even wrap my mind around losing her.

My sister’s American chocolate lab (so smaller than the English labs) lived till 15. But they should have put him down sooner. He was a great dog, but like most chocolates, kind of crazy. Chocolates actually have a chance of living shorter lives because of the recessive genes, so they lucked out. I think the breeder is the key. But you can’t control these things. If you get another dog, what about getting a poodle? Or another breed that lives a longer time?

can't do anything differently unfortunately. My yellow lab female passed about a year ago at 13.5. I am very lucky to have had a healthy happy old girl for a while but when she did decline is was extremely fast.
