Boys soccer at Jackson Rees

OP, is your son playing on an MLS next, ECNL or NL team now?

What you can do is reach out to the coach and explain the situation and follow whatever he recommends in terms of captains practices, training etc.

Can't hurt to try!

This is OP and thanks, spring/summer training is what I am hoping for, something to be familiar instead of just showing up for tryouts. I will definitely have my son reach out to the coach. And no he plays for a competitive travel team but at EDP level, not quite good enough for MLS Next.

If your son is attending JR not due to a move from a previous address (JR is your home school or you already reside in DC) and his prior school played JR, he will need a waiver. It is a pain and you will need to deal with the most useless AD on the planet...know from experience.

Interesting. Good to know. How is the soccer coach there?

Not sure how recently you went through this process, but the current AD (who started last year) is very good.

Tryouts really are at 6am. It is incredibly difficult to make the team. Coach is disorganized and leans towards favoritism. Works for some. Not for others. Also, if you are new to DCPS Sports - get the sports physical done early and the attending paperwork too. Always a mess. Tryouts have been the week right before school starts for the last 5 years.

Other options - Football is open to all. Ultimate Frisbee team is quite good and I think they still take everyone. Track. Swimming. Basketball and baseball are equally if not more competitive.

I would disagree.

There are tryouts for varsity; everyone is welcome to play JV.
