How are the sports there?

It's a two year old school, so no programs are over two years old. I can't imagine they would be thriving yet. But, I mean, so what?

More just wondering if they have similar teams to other high schools. I know they are unlikely to be too competitive yet.

This is for the 23-24 school year, but looks like they offered volleyball (girls), cross country, soccer, basketball (boys), indoor and outdoor track, tennis, and golf. https://www.macarthurhighschooldc.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=564548&type=d&termREC_ID=&pREC_ID=1088116

I know they have football, flag football, and cheer this year as well.

Per my son, flag football, swimming and baseball are coming. Not sure when these sports will compete on the varsity level (cross country does already). The sports are getting there but are not world beaters yet and likely won't be for some time, but kids can participate in everything and can lobby for new sports with teachers and principal.

School profile says only 11% of students met/exceeded expectations on CAPE assessment (Math). Is this normal for high schools?

Surprised they don't have enough kids for non club soccer.

Maybe they do. Who knows. But their addition of sport has to get approved by DCIAA. They have to get practice space and be added to game schedules and so forth. And DCIAA is lame. So that could be the catch.

Only 11% of students are on grade level?? That's not good.

MacArthur was never going to be the next Walls. Apples and oranges. Not an application school. It may well be the next Jackson Reed, or even better in some ways.

Huh. That’s an interesting change of tune. It was just a few months ago that this very platform declared MacArthur is already the new Walls:

https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1201606.page

Everybody got quiet when the conversation turned to the big brawl.

Because no one could credibly confirm or deny that adults filmed fighting on a public bus in a different part of town had anything to do with the school, let alone its academic performance. If someone were to scare away informed commenters with inflammatory videos of random people fighting in Dupont Circle or Tenleytown or Shaw, this thread could meet the same fate. Please don't. We need actual information about the school, not triggering and trolling. What is the source of the 11% on grade level number?

We’re IB but many years away still. 11% on grade level isn’t good, but it’s also the first year of a new school without any IB kids being required to go (they had the option to feed into Deal, and do not anymore). All of the neighborhood feedback I hear is very positive and optimistic, and most people in bound that are happy with the elementary and middle school experience will continue. Give it a few years for IB participation to increase and the test scores will reflect that.

Here you go. 11% in math and 39% in ELA. What is even more concerning is that most of these kids (who are a minority at the school) are just on grade level, your floor. If you look at the breakdown even further, no one is above grade level in math and only 5.5% in ELA.
