about to get kid iPhone - how to block adult content?

You think kids don't know about SOCKS proxies and changing DNS servers?

On the same note, planning to get my teen a gun for safety. How to make sure they don't shoot themselves or others?

You can put a password on your router, boomer, so they can't change the DNS there. And don't give them an admin account on their pc/mac. If they set up a proxy, then you pull the plug.

This is why I hate this site...so many unhappy, snarky people. I was just trying to be helpful. Go ahead and let your kids run wild, then they will unfortunately end up like you. Miserable sob.

Go ahead and deprive your kid of all technology, Amish style. Let's see where that gets them in today's world. And very useful analogy, too. Totally on point.

They can change it on the device itself, which does not require router access. And proxies normally exist in the cloud. There are plenty of ways to get around this stuff, and kids are very good at figuring them out before the adults do. Technological solutions for social problems never work, especially with kids.
