Flying into Dulles on evening of Jan 6

I think I'm going to chance my original itinerary, flying into Dulles at 9pm on 1/6. I hope by then the storm will be done and flights will be going. Worst case scenario I spend the night in a hotel and hopefully get out Tuesday AM.

Fwiw I'm from the Northeast and I've been assuming that an Uber will be able to traverse the Beltway by 9pm on Monday night... but maybe that's overly optimistic?

If we really get more than a few inches you will not be able to get an Uber. It’s laughable that you think this is a possibility.

You’ll be able to get an uber but it’ll be ridiculously priced. We just had this happen to us elsewhere, and the pricing on what should have been a $24 ride jumped to $280 and only black suvs available

If the silver line metro out to IAD is working, that might be a safer bet than an Uber.

Thanks all, OP here, I did make the change to come back Sunday night, thanks to a PP who pointed out that the snow won't begin until very late Sunday/early Monday. Now it's a mad scramble to get out the door and do half the trip today, half tomorrow AM.

The real test is whether to take my work laptop - I'd only need it if I get stuck for a day or two which seems unlikely if I actually land before the snow begins. But I'm planning for failure at this point, so it will probably come along for the ride.

That Uber will be very expensive, if there is one. Drivers disappear in bad weather.

Also flying in Monday mid-afternoon, not to Dulles, but to another airport. And, we need to drive home from there. Spouse has already booked a room at the airport hotel because he doesn't think we'll be able to make it home. He works remote, but I have to be in the office on Tuesday and am stressed out

I talked an uber driver about this. Even a small fender bender costs too much (repair + time out of work) to risk it.

I bet on no planes or rides anytime Monday.

OP here - I made it! Thanks DCUM PPs for your wisdom. The drive was much more stressful than originally planned since I literally moved the departure up by a day with no notice. We just threw things in the car and drove until my eyes couldn’t stay open. Then finished the drive this AM and managed to get the kid moved in and the room set up in 3hrs so I could turn around and head to the airport! Landed before the snowflakes and jumped in an Uber (who won’t be driving tomorrow as PPs predicted.)

I sometimes feel like a weirdo posting for advice here but this is one of many times I’ve gotten great advice. Stay warm DCUMs!!

Depends where the plane is coming from, how much we get. I would not plan on getting back Monday night.

Glad you made it safe!

OP, was your original flight cancelled? Looks a mess at the airport.
