Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
In fact, that area near Haycock is considered McLean even though the post office says Falls Church. If living in McLean means so much to you that you want to pretend Falls Church is McLean, you ought to move to McLean. Falls Church has plenty of nice areas. |
| OP here -- 12:42, thank you SO much for such a helpful response!!! It is great to see such a comparison. Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed post! |

OP again, just realized I missed a bunch of other helpful responses -- thank you everyone!
As for the McLean debate, I actually grew up there myself and I am positive it is not the only place to get a good education in Fairfax County. |
| 12:42 - It sounds like Shrevewood is your "neighborhood school" and that you have one child in the AAP program at Haycock. If that's the case, I'm not surprised that Shrevewood feels a bit more relaxed to you, since your primary contacts at Haycock are likely to be with parents of other kids in the AAP program. FWIW, Haycock is also the "neighborhood school" for many families with non-AAP kids. If you lived in the immediate area and had more contact with the other parents, my bet is that you'd have a different overall impression of the school. Part of the reason a lot of people love Haycock (and Longfellow) is that they do a good job taking care of their "regular kids." |
