90% of sufferers of autoimmune diseases are women. So their are diseases and conditions that there is no point in trying to avoid it. My child has one of those diseases. It appears as a baseline level in all races and people. |
I have a chronic illness caused by a single gene mutation that I inherited from one parent. I was able to conceive 2 children via PGD-IVF. I used Shady Grove Fertility and RGI (out of Chicago, I had to assemble a team bc Shady Grove at the time did not do single gene mutation screening), but I believe you can do all of it now with Shady Grove.
I needed to have my gene mutation mapped which I also believe is much easier to do than it was 15 years ago (I did this through Children's and they worked with Baylor University). If a child inherits a single gene mutation from its parent, it will be the exact same one, so a test of my mutation was necessary in order to set up a test of an embryo. I did a 5 day transfer of screened embryos. PGD does come with some agonizing decisions, so if you are eligible and decide to take this route, do all your research. |

If there is a gene, can get CVS testing at 11 weeks to check if fetus is impacted. We did this for a heritable condition. Had to send sample for genetic testing out of state, which took a couple of weeks. |
