Why won't my duvet cover fit smoothly?

I’ve also heard that the insert should be a size bigger than the cover for a better fit.

I've heard this too, but I have a king size bed and literally cannot buy a larger insert. I suppose I could use the king duvet and a queen cover but then it would all be too small for my bed.

This is the norm for a duvet cover. When you see duvet covers made up on a beautiful bed at Pottery Barn, remember that no one is sleeping on these beds. This is the nature of the beast. If adjustments are not for you, buy a comforter.

OP here. I addressed all of this in my original post. Yes corner ties are tied. Yes I do all the shaking and redistribution - that helps a little, but it's still looking sloppy. At least my bed is comfy, just looks bad. Finding great solidarity here in everyone else chiming in with the same gripe!

You need to size up on the insert (king insert in a queen cover) and/or put two thinner inserts in

Probably because you don't know how to put them on correctly? My housekeeper never has an issue. ::shrugs::

I the re-fluffer poster. I have to add that I use a coverlet on my bed and fold (in thirds) the duvet with insert at the bottom of my bed.
