Baseball league for a newbie (9 yo)?

Anonymous
It’s fine. I would ask him friends from school and sign him up for whatever league they play. In general babe Ruth is more north Arlignton and they will play until school gets out in June. Little league is more complicated and they have teams but then take a break for all stars which is kind of like travel. There were definitely kids on my son’s 9 year old team who had no clue what they were doing. In the next few months, I’d practice catching ground balls and try to teach him where to throw the ball in different situations. Buy a tee and have him hit off it.

My 12yo had kids who were new to the game last year when he played 50/70 (essentially the last year of little league).
Both ABR and little league are good organizations, but ABR has a draft starting at that age, so you may prefer that versus getting added to an established team. Little league is also a dying organization in Arlington (fewer teams year to year and ABR is much more popular).

Why is Arlington LL dying? Genuinely curious about this comment and I have no skin in the game.

What makes Arlington Babe Ruth more desirable?

I don’t think this is true. Both leagues are dying and it’s why they had to combine into Arlington United at 13u and up. Every sport is year round now and kids want to play lots of sports. It’s hard on the team when kids are missing practice or games for other commitments.

What's the difference?

No idea. Someone said that Abr has a draft. This is not at all true in reality. There are always stacked teams with the Storm kids with a Storm coach or two coaching rec teams who always demolish everyone else. 9u has two Storm teams so about 22-24 of the entire rec league. Not sure how many teams they will have at 45/60. Maybe 8? Just get on a team with classmates that will make it more fun with him.
