We have $80k for our 10 year old and $65k for our 8 year old, just due to market conditions of when the accounts were started. I don't plan on funding once either hits $100k. We'll cash flow what isn't covered by that if we need to.
We had a generous grandparent help fund it that high. The accounts would be about half those amounts without the help. |
| Barely any. |
| 4th grader, 243K. We “superfunded” 5 years’ maximum allowance (180K) this year. We’ll see what higher education cost is when DD is in high school and contribute more if necessary. |
You realize it takes most people a little planning to save $200k+ for 2 kids? |
| Can someone handhold me on how to switch funds? When I go to the 529 website, I can’t seem to figure it out. I want to switch to the most aggressive fund. |
| We have $180,000 for our senior. We didn’t think that was enough. But he just got into a state school so we are 100% covered. Feeling incredibly grateful for this newfound financial position. |
OP can’t figure out if she is saving enough by looking at tuition costs, income, other savings, Google? OP needs to ask others in order to figure this out? “Good for you?” Good that she’s asking others what they have? |
On the Virginia529 site, you go to Manage Accounts and then Change Investments/Move Funds. You can look at the overall performance of all the options under "Investment Options". We have one in college (UVA) and a senior in HS. I wish we had moved our funds earlier into the equity fund. We just left it where we started which was really stupid. |
| HS junior: 240K |
|
HS Senior 410k
8th Grader 325k |
| HS senior. $315K |
So I’m thinking of switching to a less aggressive fund bc everything seems so uncertain right now. |
| We need to start. Have 1000 in an interest bearing savings account. How much are you adding per month? We are very much scraping by. |
| We aren’t using a 529, but are planning to use a Roth IRA (DH is 60 next year). $150k in it, DC is in 11th. |
Bad tax planning. You're leaving money on the table. |
