Let’s lighten the mood - funny stories?

BYU has a candy store on campus in the bookstore. That was a big draw for dd, but the dating/social scene meant it was a no.

Same for both my DSs! I guess you have to find some way to narrow it down!

Not necessarily funny but The Bell Tower hotel in Ann Arbor is supposedly the best hotel, and we get in our room, which totally looks like grandma's house, and even had a crystal dish with a bunch of hard candies (butterscotch and starlight mints, plus the wintergreen ones) just like grandma. I don't think they were being ironic. It was bizarre.

I am a Michigan grad and dined there once. I totally see what you mean and got a good laugh. I don't think there are any truly fine hotels in Ann Arbor even today. I might try "The Graduate" chain's redo if I had hopes. The Providence version of that hotel chain was nice.

I have always wanted to try The Statler in Ithaca but can't afford it. I am not in the $600 per night price bracket (yet). (It was late August...)

I went to visit and did not like it. I remember it being very dismal - I think we just got a bad weather day or something.

Anyway, the only thing I really remember about it now is that the tour guide really emphasized that if you had a single dorm room you were allowed to have a dog. And, indeed, I remember the tour guide pointing out several dogs just tied to trees while their people were in class.

I didn't know about the dog part, don't remember being told about it! But I do remember it being dismal as well. The worst, grayest, most depressing and isolated place. I never wanted to set foot there again. I just looked again now on Google maps and it's sunny summer views and looks a lot better. They shouldn't even have tours in February!

Some of the schools w/o CFA have Caines. Just ask my DC. They know.

Younger sibling was on the UVA tour with their older sibling. Tourguide talked about several secret societies, ranging from pumpkin rolling on the lawn to a special cookie distribution day, and even a group that if you signed up, they would notify you when there were tater tots in the cafeteria.

Younger sibling had no interest in UVA, but swore they would start a secret society at their college when they went. They are a freshman, nothing created yet (that I know of)

Direct correlation between which schools DS liked most and how nice the gyms were.

Post above reminded me of one. I think it was Duke but not 100% certain, a kid created an app to show which clubs or events had free food on any given day.

One of mine only wanted to go to a school with unlimited swipes in the dining hall. Another one said no to a school if he thought the logo/design on the basketball court was "ugly." And no, my DC was not an athlete and would only be attending basketball games as a fan.

So about the Chik Fil A, my kid checks for pho restaurants. It’s very challenging in certain places to find anything other than basic Chinese food restaurants. He could eat pho every day

I went to Cornell Law when they did law firm on-campus interviews at the Statler. Just you, (usually) some dude and a small room with a big bed.

Every time we visited a school we ate in the dining hall. My son ruled out every school that had lousy pizza or a bad ice cream selection. Can’t say I really blame him!

We were touring one of the Pennsylvania state colleges. Tour guide was a mess. There was a family that literally could not keep up -- and she ditched them. This is not funny, it's actually sad that they had given this kid NO training on what to do if a family couldn't keep up. (Also a sad commentary on health in America.)
