Feedback on these two McLean houses

No sidewalks and you have to drive everywhere. It’s basically a thru way for commuters from the west that jams up the roads. These country roads can be treacherous in winter.

I used to live in a neighborhood like that. There was an unexpected rush hour snowfall, a literal dusting, and it took over an hour to get to the main road due to traffic.

Hey op im going with house number 1 because once I got to two kitchen islands on house two I lost interest and gave up. Didn’t even see the rest of the pictures. Hopelessly ugly. No women were involved in the design whatsoever.

Location is better on #1 but #2 has the nicer, more modern looking house. But I know many people who like the idea of living off Georgetown Pike

2nd one needs to be torn down as soon as possible

Neither. Why 10k sq ft?

On the second house, photo #24. The kitchen designer is absolutely insane. Shaquille O’Neal himself reject that wall oven placement.

I actually like a lot of the houses in McLean, but these two are tacky monstrosities. Both are ugly and look like places for someone who embezzled a lot of foreign aid money to launder some cash.

Help your family to look at tasteful houses that are half the size.

My aunt bought a 4500 sq ft house as an empty nester with the profits from a more normal sized suburban 4 bedroom. When people visit, we are only comfortable using the spaces that parallel what her old house offered. We do not use the parlor, the large finished basement, and a huge amount of wasted space is devoted to the foyer and front stair. The house is echo-y and parts of it cannot be closed off. Some of the large windows make it feel not very private, since it is on a cul de sac.

In addition to being ugly, #2's white glossy floors would be hard to keep clean.

Both are nice but I recommend focusing on location above all else. Think really hard about where the best spot is for your needs. Of the two locations I prefer #1.

Both seem fine to me. I'm curious as to why specifically there is so much distaste towards house #2

Somehow it feels like agent collecting info on these two houses. Trying to see if we be more interested in her listing or other one

For $4 million I would focus on a better lot in McLean. Pipestem/shared driveway would be a no go as well as backing a major road. Plus #2 is an eyesore.

I toured #1 pretty quickly and was not impressed.

The workmanship throughout the house feels pretty shoddy. I would never pay this price tag for this in a house.

Examples:

Paint on the hinges on multiple doors
The banister on the staircase feels like it was a rush job - the finish feels gritty and you can see how they slapped together pieces of wood.
Obvious flaws in the glass of the staircase
The downstairs bar area lacks even a microwave. It’s just this massive marble slab
The grout in the walkway is already chipping
Baseboards look like they were slapped on without being properly sanded and cut correctly
Etc
Etc

The builders name is not one that I’ve ever heard of. I would have your family member do their research. There could be larger issues given how many cosmetic there are.

Location:

Pros:
The pond is great
Wonderful neighborhood

Cons:

The front yard is someone’s backyard and they are very close together

Shared driveway would be tough
