Are you crazy? An eight-year-old should not have social media or TikTok.

I don't see how tik Tok is different from YouTube

All social media sites that show shot video clips of action items are EXTREMELY addictive. They all target your brain's dopamine receptors when they are being watched.

The problem, of course, is everything else by comparison is not as exciting.
-Playing with toys=Boring
-Riding a bike=Boring
-Playing with friends=Boring
-Watching Short Videos=Exciting

Put the joy back in kids lives, get rid of phones and devices that serve up highly addictive content.

The fact that an 8 year old says they “saw something on TikTok” doesn’t mean their parents have given them a phone, set up a TikTok account and they have unfettered access. It might, but it doesn’t have to.

First, lots of parents have TikTok and kids are watching it over their shoulder. Second, the kids could watch TikTok stuff on YouTube and the parents don’t realize it. Third, they could have been on a playdate and watched it because an older sibling has it.

So I would not cast stones when you don’t know the specifics of what happened.

My neighbor 8 year old just found out about Santa because she saw a video on TikTok. Today she was mad because of it, all I wanted to say is WHY IS SHE ON TikTok. My kids were on Youtube kids at that age and I was near them..

Um, you're the parent, shouldn't you be telling US why your 8 year old is on TikTok?

My 8 year old doesn't have unfettered access to the internet, so she has only seen TikTok once, when her teen cousin showed her a video (she asked me first, which was sweet of her).

Sorry I misread OP's post, but some 8 year olds are watching TikTok because their parents are idiots.

It's not. I guarantee OP let her kids watch unboxing videos on YouTube which is the exact same thing as letting your kids watch TikTok - just as addictive. My kids are 10 and 12 and they share a Kindle kids that we keep in our room. They didn't start early, so they don't ask to use it very often. The 12 year old will probably get access to my iPad when she starts middle school so she can text her friends. I don't care if I'm not a cool mom, I'm pretty happy with how my kids have turned out to SO FAR not be addicted to screens or show any interest in them.

I’d be feeling dang superior, this is a gimme. I would let her know that 8 year olds aren’t allowed on TikTok because of its adult content. I understand it gets harder as they age but 8 year olds should be easy enough to block. Poor thing was probably looking up Santa.

Good kids have good feeds.

This has to be a kid. No adult is this ignorant. Please find a good kids movie to watch

It's absolutely the same. Everything on TikTok is also on youtube.

YouTube Kids is what the name says, a program for kids. It’s not something an adult would watch on their own. TikTok is not for children under the age of 13. You might not like either of them but they don’t have the same content. Regular YouTube might.
