Is a "used up" tech suit good as a regular practice/leisure suit? Give it away with normal clothing swaps / hand-me-downs. |
I don't think so. I think the suits are being worn at near failure tensions, so aren't expected to have much of a life after racing, they also aren't known for comfort or stylishness. |
What does the venn diagram between people who can afford the kind of swimming that requires tech suits and people who need donated tech suits look like? Is there anyone who falls into that group? |
It's nil the suits are used up. This is pretty common in *performance* sports gear. Professional soccer players go through cleats very quickly, only a game or two. This is why they have different ratings for the same model shoe. Acadamy to elite, so the kids can wear their Messi's but don't have to pay for all of the features of the pros that they can't use anyway, and they are more reliable. They usually come in four grades. The higher grades have the features, carbon fiber, rubber grips, but they are usually heavier and more durable, eg they are expected to last a season of high school soccer. The tech suits for high schoolers and under with professional features is a bit unusual, though many of the athletes are actually peak in their swimming career, but they aren't anywhere near pro caliber. |
It can take a good 15 minutes to get into a well fitting tech suit. |
OP here - I reached out to them a while ago and never heard back. I also reached out to the former swim club and they didn't want them. |
Many swimming families that “can afford” tech suits, but for whom spending an additional ~$1,000 on two per year is an impactful hit to the budget. |
Getting stronger is less expensive and more useful long term and outside the pool.. |
No one would wear a tech suit unless they had to. “Regular people try on a tech suit” https://youtube.com/shorts/cUPDu7wS7jg?si=5bohrj7QE6oOfc0W |
I know Sport Fair (not sure where you are?) has a donation box at the store. Maybe give them a call and see if they might want them? Worst case you could ship them if you're far away? |
You think people that spend $500 on racing suits don’t already do strength training? Smh |
