These look like YA. |

My son has liked
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Non fiction books like the What If? Series Steve Sheinkin historical non fiction (there’s one about WW2) The Martian Packing for Mars (non-fiction) A Walk in the Woods Jurassic Park Hunt for Red October Bringing Down the House (about a blackjack scam) Born a Crime Has he read stuff like The Other Side of the Mountain? I think there’s also a Jon Stewart Hisyory of America that he might like. Does he like Star Wars? There’s an old school series of novels that were written for adults in the 80s or 90s. |
My DH read them and I read them. What's your point? |
That person hasn't read them. "These look like YA" - Here's opinions on people who have. Read them and form your own opinion. https://www.reddit.com/r/dresdenfiles/comments/9lj87n/do_you_consider_dresden_files_to_be_a_ya_series/ https://www.reddit.com/r/urbanfantasy/comments/3fraqh/why_does_the_iron_druid_get_so_much_hate/ |

Red Rising.
I don’t know if it’s technically YA or not but my DS read it, then I had my mid-40s book club read it, and my DH read it. My book club cranked through the trilogy. |
I think my point was clear, THEY LOOK LIKE YA and the OP specifically asked for non YA books. Can't you read? |
|
I like a bunch of these suggestions. How about some Jon Krakauer - Into Thin Air, Into the Woods?
Endurance - about Shackleton's voyage to the South Pole? |
|
Some other thoughts: any Michael Crichton book (there are dozens, some already mentioned here); Phillip Pullman (leans a bit YA but is also enjoyed by adults, and the themes are fairly complex); Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach trilogy; The Terror by Dan Simmons; The Three Body Problem series.
I think Cormac McCarthy, while a beautiful writer, might be too dark for him. The Road is probably his least dark book, though. |
Krakauer is a great suggestion for a teen. |
| The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. For sure. |
+1 my son read and enjoyed Into Thin Air in a high school English class. |

At that age, I loved The Right Stuff, by Tom Wolfe.
https://www.amazon.com/Right-Stuff-Tom-Wolfe/dp/0312427565 I also read a bunch of Michener’s books, including Chesapeake. They may be too formulaic (or dated) for him, but I remember really liking them. |
That looks like YA! /s I read these and this is a great choice. Very funny. |
