A swim parka’s main function is to keep a swimmer warm on the deck between races. Not as a coat to wear to the car. My kids take their parkas to every meet, indoor or outdoor and often wear them all the way to the block to keep their muscles as warm as possible.

Crazy how a garment that will keep you warm inside will also keep you warm outside. What a fortuitous unintended consequence!

Thanks for stating the obvious. Posters are telling OP her son doesn’t need a parka to go to the car from the pool. That is true. He doesn’t. My point is that there is another reason to get a parka besides dashing to the car. A swim parka is designed to keep muscles warm on the deck. Many parents new to swim don’t realize that swimmers need to stay warm on the deck to swim their best. Even if you live in a hot climate, it’s something to consider as part of your kid’s swim kit.

DD got one when like 10 and it is still the best thing we ever bought. Same coat. Just got a larger one than she needed at the time.

Hmm. I guess if you haven’t seen it, it must not exist. Except I see it all the time. Mostly at outdoor meets when the air temperature can be 40 degrees and it’s raining. Believe me, the officials and timers are tempted to find a parka to put on when it’s like that. But I see it even at indoor meets when the deck temperature is chilly. Perhaps you have not been to enough meets outside your local pools.

It's a parka, it has one function: to keep you warm. Inside or out. It's not the only way to stay warm indoors and out. There are other ways. We get it.
