It’s not the school’s fault if students abuse their devices. “You should have stopped me” is never a defense for wrongdoing.

Are you saying schools should not have or enforce rules about how students use devices because it's not their fault if students abuse school devices?

How about putting it on the parents who aren't restricting the phones or monitoring them.

So you're not going to answer the question then. That's helpful.

And what exactly does putting it on the parents look different than what exist already where parents clearly aren’t doing their job?

Is it that there is none???!! Now THAT is something ALL parents should advocate for now!

Of course, there is still a gifted designation and the opportunity for appropriate experiences.

How is it going at the away all day schools? Are phones really away all day? Is this for both students and staff?

Have a student at an Away All Day Middle School and no, they're not really away all day. It's a pilot with no serious enforcement, measurement or resources. Just like every other MCPS "pilot."

Yep, it's to track how and who filled out what. Typical of them to want to go after who said what instead of fixing the problems that are being said.

At our middle school it is going well. Phone is confiscated immediately if it comes out. Second offense requires parents to pick it. Kid reports that lots of phones were confiscated the first week and now people are keeping phones away because of
That

+1. It should look like a cell phone store in the office the first week of school with subsequent weeks looking more appropriate.

Call the parents and tell them their kid is a nightmare and send them home/suspend them. Simple.

That wouldn't work in HS as teachers require kids to turn in paper assignments via taking pictures and uploading them.

That seems like a solvable problem

Agree, wish they would focus on education and stop with the meddling.
