| A running QB was an anomaly in the 80s and 90s. Now it's almost mandatory you can run and throw equally as well to be a top QB in NFL. The same shift will occur for women's keepers... they'll need to be tall and athletic to be top tier. Some are there already; watch out. |
No need. You're wrong but are so up yourself you would not listen anyway. That you are supposedly a functioning adult who adds "lmao" shows all anyone needs to know. |
You're right frankly. I won't. I've seen it, watched it, heard of it, live it. I don't need an anon to explain what is factual. Just relax. Differing opinions are okay nowadays. |
Totally relaxed. Different opinions are ok. I agree. . I'm happy you know it all from your perspective. You aren't the only one who "knows things." I love this journey for you. Enjoy your evening. |
^ this look at current rosters of teams and track goalie heights. Our DS went through this and even in D3, 6 feet+ is what they are looking for...our DS was below that and did not find a D3 roster spot. |
| A quick check of the 10 NCAA D3 schools near me in PA shows 11/32 rostered keepers were under 6'. Shortest was 5'8". 3 of the 10 schools had a sub 6' keeper who was the regular starter. |
| The 5 nearest D2 schools have 6/18 keepers under 6'. 2 of the 5 schools had a sub 6' keeper as the regular starter. |
| Does anybody else find following these threads difficult as each post is seemingly talking about a different gender? |
| Height also has come coorelation to 'size', meaning as a girl/woman you'll be bigger than average field player. This translates to being able to body up and jump high into crowds without being knocked down. You'll also be able to kick further from a goal kick, which is massive considering average national team keeper can't make half field. On ground kicks to wide players will go further and more more driven vice the constant rolls to side players a few yards from the box. Height equals more than just tall, which already is a massive plus in woman's game. |

An interesting article regarding smaller v taller goalkeepers. It may well surprise some. For those who want to immediately dismiss it outright before reading it. Here is the are the last two paragraphs.
"However if we ask Pep Guardiola on his signing of 185cm goalkeeper Stefan Ortega he states he leaves it to the goalkeeper coach “No. It’s the keepers’ department.” “I am not an expert in goalkeepers, that’s why we have a trainer for that”. Yes, Pep Guardiola, the most successful coach in premier league history considers himself not to be an expert in goalkeeping. (Just read that again if you wish) If Guardiola claims not to be are you? Perhaps you can join the elite coaches as well by putting aside the preconceived misconceptions of goalkeeping height and identify a future champions league and world cup winning goalkeeper right there in your youth team who is not quite yet filling the shirt?" https://medium.com/@gk180/why-elite-goalkeepers-are-getting-smaller-in-modern-football-54f2c5c01cf0#:~:text=Or%20the%20best%20Welsh%20players,to%20be%20comparatively%20smaller%20goalkeepers. |
| If you cite an anomoly, like a 'short' keeper, that's like saying Spud Webb won the slam dunk contest once, so <6' NBA players are just as good as 6'10" players. Stop. There will always be anomolies... short pitchers, short QB, short bball players. This is the NORM... 300+ colleges, there's room for all keeper sizes. For women tho, over 6' is the anomaly as 5'8" is the norm. No HC cares about keepers when he has 10 field players they have to care about. It's the opposite of NFL HC where they mostly care about the QB. |
You clearly didn't read it. It is just something to think about. That said, congratulations! You know more than Pep Guardiola! |
| oooo. burn. omg... nailed it. Are you flexing in front of the mirror rn? DaaaaanG! |
Not exactly a witty retort. This the kind of comeback someone does when they don't have anything else. Enlighten us as to who you are and why you are an expert on goalkeeping. Otherwise, your opinion isn't worth any more than anyone else's. You're just another guy. And as typical of this area, a guy who thinks their opinion is better than everyone else's. |
I wouldn't be in this thread if I wasn't heavily involved in keeping and getting to college via keeping. I don't have to post my resume here to you all, but I also don't see anyone providing an understanding of why height DOES absolutely matter and in the women's game, with become more and more relevant. Thankfully taller/bigger girls are coming into clubs as evidenced by some top keepers going to ACC schools in our area. |
