If you submitted work samples and got into AAP, can you share what you submitted?

Perhaps not helpful, but our AART gave us some worksheets or problems or whatever to have our kid complete (honestly don't remember specifics), so we submitted those. Perhaps you could ask for some.

Writing was just the kid’s description of an animal but details like the animals features, food source, life cycle, and habitat. It was a real animal and the impressive thing for us personally was that it was done purely from memory. Math was a bit more “advanced “ showing kid’s understanding of materials taught in class and applied it to more challenging problems (e.g., learned addition of 2 digit numbers in school but use it for 3 or 4 digit numbers at home)

Forgot to say they were both in pool with great GBRS from their teachers which I believe is key

People who know nothing about how AAP works nowadays shouldn't be allowed to post here anymore. GBRS is no longer a thing, grandma.

NP here. They used GBRS 2 yrs ago when my 4th grader got into AAP. I also have a middle schooler in AAP and ton of friends with high school kids who were in AAP. The process has changed but GBRS to HOPE is only one part of the new holistic process. Those of us elderly folks from GBRS days (a mere 2 years ago) still have valuable info to share, but we're happy to keep it to ourselves. Let us know when you need help with your appeal after you get it wrong.

It was GBRS prior to last year and unless OP asked specifically for last year, that post was perfectly ok. In fact it is better than ok since it provides added information unlike yours.

I bet your parents and children change the subject when their friends ask about you.

Don't need your help, my child got in on her own merits, no application, worksheets, test prep, etc involved. Sorrynotsorry.

Good to know your own limitations, any parent advocacy on your part likely wouldn't have been well-received!

DP and my 3 kids got in under both HOPE and GBRS. One was under the old in-pool system and two under the new in-pool system with local norms. Promise that the stuff I learned on the first time when I was allowed to submit 4 work samples and letters of recommendation still applied when it was 2 work samples and no letters. The GBRS traits still sounded really good in my parent referral and questionaire even when the teacher was using HOPE - after all, the committee teams have often been around since GBRS and spent years being told those were gifted traits so why not use them?

And I promise you in 7th grade nobody is asking if your parents put together a work sample for you or not. There are kids who succeed in AAP and kids who really, really don't but I have no idea how involved their parents were in the referral process.

DP, but what possessed you to be so nasty? Sorry, you don't get to decide who posts. Besides, the post you are responding to was that of an experienced parent who was trying to help; GBRS and HOPE are analogous in that both represent the teacher's assessment/opinion of the child, which is heavily weighted in the AAP process. Still.

Both GBRS and HOPE are out of parents’ control. This is how your child’s teacher feels about your kid. The teacher accessment seems most important.

Not just seems. Was demonstrated in the external review of AAP in 2020 to actually be the determining variable when they controlled for as many other things as they could.
