Away is nice because the slightly larger carryon is a good size (they also have a lifetime guarantee I think). |
Just buy Briggs and Riley. Best suitcases we’ve ever had. |
100%. I have 10 year old Briggs and Riley suitcases that have literally been around the world and are going still strong. Worth every penny. |
PP who bought CalPak here. I've had both, and I feel like the hard-sided is more in style, which is pretty much why I have it. But before that I had soft, and traveled with it for work quite a bit. I feel like it was easier to pack in the soft sided one if that makes sense? Although perhaps it was the shape and size and not the fact that it was soft sided? But the soft sided wore out and looked beat up much faster than the hard sided. You can really go with either. |
I consider them an influencer hype brand that isn't really any better than anything else. Far from it, actually. Unless you want the built in charger thing they have. Which I do not, it just makes things heavier and I don't need a charger built into my suitcase and taking room away from what I need to pack. |
I have 2 pieces of Away luggage and am generally very happy. I did see online that they no longer do the lifetime warranty tho. |

OP here- thank you for all of the posts. I decided to try the Calpak. Amazingly, I happened to look at Costco website and they are offering a Calpak set at a great price. |
For anyone else looking, we found a CalPak carry-on at TJMaxx a few years ago, and I've seen them there several times since. |
I adore my Away. I have the smaller one and it’s gotten onto every plane I’ve ever taken, including European budget airlines, Spirit, etc. I travel a ton, so it’s taken multiple beatings and remains in great shape. Admittedly I am a light packer, but I’ve also packed for 3+ weeks in that plus a personal item/weekender bag. |
I have an $80 Samsonite from TJ Maxx that's even older and also still going strong. |
I have Away and Tumi. All hard shells. My Tumi stuff looks so beat up and my Away stuff looks great. |
I really like Away. The store in Georgetown is convenient if you need it day of. (like i did once!) |
