Honors colleges - worth it for some schools?

They say they will let you know. You don’t have your write essays, just check a box.

If you’re admitted to UGA “regular” via early action in November, but not to honors, you have to submit a separate honors application in January.

My kid attend u South Carolina and I agree it’s a great honors program, but it also fits him (sporty, good business program, good weather, big and social) so that’s why he chose it. I don’t know if the honors college would be enough to sway me if it didnt line up with his other desired traits for the school.

From what I have heard from recent grads it is worth doing the honors college as a freshman and sophomore since you get priority admissions/ have smaller class sizes/have an initial acquaintance group. I know many who dropped the honors after that since they did not think the extra work was worth it for junior year/senior year.

I didn't think USC had an honors college.

They are talking about University of South Carolina not the USC most people think of (Univ of Southern California). At first, I too was confused!

Do Michigan and Wisconsin have honors colleges? Do prospective freshmen apply or is it by invitation? We don't see any info about...

I assume no but checking. The two schools are for Univ South Carolina and Tennessee.

I want her to apply because why not, but she's still finishing other apps (RD) and can barely get those done so it seems unlikely.

Does it hurt or help chances of acceptance just into the regular pool?

I feel like all the Big 10/midwestern flagship state schools have good honors programs.
