Can middle school teachers give assignments out earlier due to absence?

Can? Possibly.
Must? No
Should? That is up in the air. It might be easy for a veteran middle school teacher of a singleton course to prepackage something your child can do without prior instruction. However, a new teacher or a veteran one who is in a PLC might need to develop lessons the day before they are taught.

I’m a year 5 teacher and this request would be hard for me to fulfill. Every year is different and I always prep and adjust stuff and bring in new stuff a day or two before . Your kid can email me while they are away and I will try to share stuff or ask them to check canvas

Sure they can because actually teachers have so much extra time on their hands to grade things over and over ,(every word and question no doubt). We love not being able to read illegible hand writing and figuring out who cheated and planning for the future as well as the past and creating our lessons modified 6 ways from Sunday because all the kids are "special" these days. Grading hundreds of papers every day is so fun because after my principal berates me I will be pressured to just make up A's so parents don't get mad because they love to blame blame blame teachers.
