Why is the name Nigel common in Britain but virtually unheard of in America?

It's spelled N'yjhelle in America.

The name Nigel is most certainly NOT popular in the UK. It would be bizarre to name a baby this in the UK now. It is an old-fashioned name that fell out of favour some time ago, like Ethel in the US.

Because it sounds extremely nerdy and uptight.

I’m 50 and knew a guy named Nigel. He was from MoCo, black, and fairly affluent/UMC.

He’s the only Nigel I’ve ever met IRL.

I also knew a guy named Juels (spelled that way, pronounced Jules).

I know lots of "Austins" but they are all American, similar to the Travis/Trevor comment. Anyone know a brit Chad?

All the young brit guys I know are named Max, Colin, Connor, Andy, etc.
