This is the best mascara I’ve ever used:

I have found that spraying my face/ eyelashes with a setting spray shortly after applying mascara reallly helps. Shut you eyes gently/do not like tightly clench them and just spray lightly enough to get it on your eyelashes. Open your eyes, let it dry. definitely prevents flaking and smudging

Thanks for all of the tips, in particular I plan to try wiping off the mascara wand before using and using setting spray.

I have tried many of the recommended mascaeas- Thrive is an example of one I tried and all reviews said no flaking, but something black would flake off under my wyes when I’d use it (maybe they werent flakes in the traditional sense, maybe they were parts of tubes, I don’t know and it is a distinction without a difference).

Another person who loves tubing. I always had smudges before. Always. I rarely notice flakes now but I prefer them to the dark shadow smudge under my eyes anyway. I use hourglass. It comes right off with soap and water.

I have the same problems op but with added issues of invisible blonde lashes that are impossible to cover combined with ocular rosacea so many mascaras bother my eyes.

I tried having my lashes tinted at my hair salon but it never lasted.

I really wish I could figure it out as well.

I’ve had the best luck with Tarte XL tubing mascara. It doesn’t flake or smudge.

Cle de Peau mascara is wonderful.

I am another person who wipes the mascara off and then also uses tissue to close around the wand one time to take off excess. Benefit They're Real is the best for not flaking, although it can be hard to remove. It's not waterproof but somewhere in between.

I really like Essence princess waterproof mascara. I’ve tried lots of other brands and all non waterproof mascara flakes or smudges or doesn’t hold up after I curl my lashes.

And if I don't have any available I separate clumps with a comb:

great idea. Thanks!

Cover Girl Great Lash Waterproof...it doesn't get any better. Pull the wand out and get the excess off on the side of the tube - scrape it off. Apply thin coats until you get the look you want. Don't pump the wand in the tube because it dries out the mascara and makes it clumpy. Remove with eye makeup remover and/or Vaseline.

I have this problem too. One thing that has helped some is putting eye drops in my eyes, waiting a bit , and then putting on my mascara

I have eyelids that are starting to droop. I was finding that traditional mascara *always* smudges onto my top eyelid. Started using tubing mascara and was pretty impressed with how it doesn't smudge at all! Yes, there is some flaking, but it's so minor compared to the smudging, and easy to just wipe away with a tissue. It's also super easy to remove using just warm water and a washcloth.

I like Blinc Ultravolume, though I hate the brush it came with, which just makes a huge gloppy mess. So I switched out the brush for another one which is much more defined, and that seems to do the trick. I find $26 to be pretty expensive for mascara, so I recently tried this: https://a.co/d/aED9Goo. For $5.00, it's not bad at all! Goes on really smoothly, comes off easily, but isn't quite as thick as the Blinc brand. Good for everyday, lowkey, etc.
