The teachers at our MCPS elementary have great costumes! And every class does a party. They just don’t call it Halloween, it’s the fall party. Which is fine. |
| Name the schools! I don't believe you. |
+1 every year |
You put this on NextDoor a month ago Troll You are sick |
+5 the majority of the down country elementaries are very very restricted for Halloween and yes tell teachers no hat, books, anything Halloween actually. |
Rock Creek forest, Rock view, Oakland terrace, highland, rosemary hills, woodlin, takoma, ESS, highland view, sligo creek, glen haven... |
| Nah. I'm annoyed that Halloween has turned into a month-long thing. I'd be fine if we went back to the days of trick-or-treating for an hour, having a couple pumpkins on the porch as decoration and that's the whole thing. |
I’m 46 - we did not dress up at school and if there was a Halloween party during the day I don’t remember it. The American Halloween experience is trick or treating in the evening. It’s distracting during the school day and so many kids are left out for so many reasons. |
I've had kids at two of the schools on that list and they absolutely had celebrations that allowed kids to dress up. No, it was not "Halloween" but they did wear costumes and the OP would have been very welcome to wear their Dr. Seuss hat. |
| Oh wow. That’s so sad. My kids MCPS elem school definitely celebrates. We have a parade and then class parties. |
We’re not even allowed to THINK about it! |
| Our school does class parties for Halloween and Valentine’s Day. We also do a winter singalong with Christmas, Hannukah and Kwanza songs. I can’t believe some schools do nothing. |
I teach at one of these schools. 2019 was our last year celebrating Halloween at school. It is sad. Ironically, my kids in a different cluster always had parties and parades in elementary. They’re in HS now and absolutely allowed to dress up at school tomorrow. |
I teach at one of these schools as well. I remember the days of Halloween parties, costumes and a parade outside around the field. We now have a “Fall Celebration.” Students are encouraged to wear their favorite “fall” shirt. I know there are several schools that still celebrate Halloween with themed activities, costumes, parades, etc. I think all MCPS schools should have the same policy and expectations for their schools and communities. |
I don't believe you. Bethesda Elementary and all the schools in that area celebrate Halloween. |
