You aren't, but eve if you were it's okay to not make your teens happy all the time.. It;s okay to not do what the other parents are doing.

I had a friend in high school whose parents allowed this. It was a place for drinking and weed.

+1. Of course not. Also OP will have liability for whatever happens and other parents will
be angry. I wouldn't let my kid go to such a situation

My daughter has access to ours. But she is a super good kid. And I stop in unannounced whenever I please.

Depends on the kid. My 17 yo has a friend who lives in the detached apartment her mom used to air bnb - but it’s pretty close to the main house (was a garage) but her mom keeps things pretty managed.

Why did you have children if you didn't want to parent them?

I didn't get unfettered access to our guest house until I was married.

Similar to a guest house in that there were beds and a bathroom (sort of—I am now wondering how my dad emptied the sewage from it when it was parked in our side yard). I remember one time we ate all the onion salt out of the spice rack. Wild times.

I’ve never know anyone with a guest house so I’m not really qualified, but I think I would say no.

When I was in high school (90s) a friend had a glorified treehouse (maybe a room above a shed? It’s hazy) that was detached from the house. No bathroom, but they lived in a wooded area and everyone was willing to pee in the woods. We were a bunch of theater kids so sometimes we had rousing singalongs and other G rated fun, but mostly we got high and made out.

This.

Hell no, you don't give them access until they are launched, on their own, and thirty years old coming back to visit a few nights with their fiancé.

A lot of us had pool houses. I’m going to say absolutely not

People like you are why I'm not thrilled about my kids going to other people's homes.

Why don't your kids already live in the guest house? I'm so confused.

+1 right!

Unless you install a camera in the house and at the entrance and let them know you’ll be monitoring, but then you have the problem of your actual guests being extremely uncomfortable with this.
