Tryouts and team announcements for next season timing

On the flipside, we let our club know that we wouldn’t be returning after tryouts. My kid is a starter and was benched after that discussion. We thought we were doing them a favor by letting them know they needed to fill a spot on the team, but jokes on us. These clubs just really don’t care about anything other than the bottom line.

Lacrosse season generally runs August 1st to July 31st. On the boys side, it takes off all of August and September. There have been only a few club tournaments (and most of those just happened in the last couple of weeks). What team is this? Boys or girls.

USA Hockey did a huge overall on their coaching best practices and part of that tracked youth development arcs for boys and girls. When kids are younger than a certain age, training/play is on development, but then pivots more toward competition as kids get older. Tryouts really should be timed with the competition phase.

St James would rather call it travel and charge you 9 year old $3,500 than call it rec or developmental and charge $1,250

$3,500 per season or per year?

I think volleyball tryouts are happening now/soon. Let’s turn this into about volleyball thread.😱

Just went through this with baseball. Wasn’t pretty. To make matters worse communication was totally botched and roll out of team offers was not smooth. Not all clubs have tryouts at this time of year so kids who are unhappy will really need to hustle to find a plan b.

Tryouts and team switches are always hard and it’s tougher when the majority of the team has been together for a long time. But movement and team changes are part of the game so we accept it and try not to worry too much about it. Always good to have DS tryout with other clubs from time to time and be aware of what’s going on with other teams. Always good to be realistic about your kids potential too but I know many simply cannot.
