DC safety on and after election

Just a few mostly peaceful demonstrations but don’t worry the DoD updated their policies in September to allow the military to use deadly force against US citizens on US soil in support of law enforcement activities.

A good article covering that update https://ronaldwchapman.com/blog/dod52401?format=amp so any real issues will be taken care of quickly I am sure.

Anyone doing any (mild, moderate) doomsday prepping for Election Day and lead up to inauguration? Am I being silly asking? I live just off the Hill and have a medically fragile child. While I am always prepped for mild shit to go down (lots of extra meds and supplies ready to be put in car with kid if needed), I want to get a pulse on what everyone else is thinking. Maybe DC will be the safest place in the US?

Please, folks, leave some damn toilet paper for other shoppers if you are already prepping now for Election day. It's always that toilet paper and bread...!!!

I myself have some medical needs that would cause problems if there was, like, a prolonged siege, but I'm not worried about post-election period at all. Nothing is going to happen in residential neighborhoods in D.C.

Prolonged Siege?? Are you seriously preparing for the medieval raids of some sort? I want to know what's going on through people's minds here

The pussy cat ladies will be joined in protest by the cat ladies. It will be the cat’s meow!

No, I specifically said I'm not worried at all. PPs were talking about making sure they had enough medical supplies on hand, so I started thinking through how my own medical supplies could become a problem, and the only way that occurred to me was in the case of, as I said, some kind of prolonged siege. But obviously that isn't going to happen. As I said, nothing is going to happen here.

If you're not worried at all, then why are you posting?

Stuff is more likely to go down at the state capitals this go round.

Because OP asked if people were worried, and I thought I'd answer the question? I think it's ludicrous to worry about safety after the election in upper NW D.C.

Unlikely the election will be decided on Election Day.

As soon as Biden was announced on the Saturday following the election last time, people started celebrating and the boards came off the business windows.

Our office is near the Clarendon Metro in Arlington. We received notices today to try to work from home from November 5 through the end of the week. There was no mention of why, but the underlying inference was to expect problems from demonstrators going to or from DC via Metro.

Election worker here. The earliest we'll see tangible election results is the Saturday after election day. Lots of people voting by mail, and in many states, they can't start counting those until election day evening after polls close. Then you'll have a big batch of provisional ballots, SDRs (same day voter reg), and also waiting on mail-in ballots from abroad.

Sure, the news organizations will call states where it's obvious, like DC or MD for Harris (but not the MD senate race Alsobrooks/Hogan I think), but then we'll be stalled on waiting for a bunch of key states where it's too close to call until all those votes are tallied.

So.. I don't see people getting wild and crazy on election night, as there will be nothing to protest about yet.

Since you are always prepared to some degree (as a thoughtful parent of a child with medical needs), I don't' think you need to do anything extra.
