Do the hosts a favor and put at least some minimal effort into your outfit, so it’s at least a step above what you wear to the Olive Garden on Tuesday night. No jeans. |
+1 I'm more comfortable overdressed than under. |
Hahaha that’s me!!! I am an elder millennial 😂 |
I'd find a dress or skirt/top combo that I can make look nice enough to show I care about the couple but not too fancy
Like I wore this dress to a friend's pre-wedding party at a nice restaurant over the summer - and it felt like it was the right amount of dressiness; some people were more, some less, but I felt like I looked like I wasn't too dressed up but still sufficiently so to show I care about the couple getting married: https://www.everlane.com/products/womens-supima-jersey-riviera-dress-black?collection=womens-dresses Jeans and a nice top would have been absolutely fine at that event, too |
Oooo the Express ones. |
A dress is usually going to be easy for any wedding event. It shows you care, and there are lots of casual dresses. |
Drinks at a bar--Depends on the exact venue. Is it upscale or just a pub?
Brunch I would wear black trousers, Hermes scarf tied into a halter (Courbettes et cabrioles to be specific on the print), and an ivory knit blazer. Shoes would be CL Miss Sabs. |
This is op. I like this idea. I think the problem is that I have niceish sweaters but not really any nice festive tops. Where is a good place to look at silk shirts? Most of my button down shirts are very boring business shirts. I've struck out at Nordstrom loft near my office. |
I think boden has a lot of really cute silk blouses that are more interesting than standard work issue blouses. |
Aritzia or Equipment for blouses. Or a silk tank with a blazer and boots is a safe bet
For brunch I would do something that is basically elevated pajamas—wide leg pant, camisole, cardigan, sunglasses |
I would wear something nicer than jeans to Friday. Pants and a sweater would be ok. Brides friends might be in nice jeans but as an older person I would not wear them. Men will probably be in khakis with possibly a blazer.
Sunday will depend on if you’re headed to the airport right after, but it’s probably anything but sweats and pjs after the big party. Khakis or pants are fine. |
I reread the invitation and the brunch is indeed just casual whereas the Friday night cocktails are dressy casual. |
A wrap dress probably. |
- Midi ribbed sweater dress in olive, oatmeal or maroon with some nice accessories (e.g. mini leather bag from cuyana) and leather mules, suede sneakers, or boots depending on the crowd
- Pleated wool midi skirt (check this season DVF for options) or wide leg cropped trousers with crop sweater / tee and a oversized blazer or shrunken jacket (check: ALC, APC) in neutral brown / olive tones - wide leg jumpsuit with oversized cashmere wool overcoat (check: maxmara, the row) |
I have black pants for every occasion. |
