Settle a debate - food storage/“expiration dates”

I would not eat any of it but I am never in that situation because I don't freeze meat and wouldn't have older food. I just buy as needed for those types of items.

I would eat all of it assuming all items pass my smell test (I'm very sensitive, back in my country we ate a lot homemade canned food without clear markings, had to rely on my sense of smell to avoid food poisoning)

Baking mix - I’d check for bugs and use if it looked clear.

Meat - I’d thaw and smell. As long as it didn’t seem spoiled, I’d go ahead and use.

I remember when cans, jars, and boxed foods didn’t have expiration dates and nobody worried.

You think frozen meat can "spoil"?

No but it will taste horrible. You won't die but it's not worth eating.

And make sure there was never a power outage. If you don't know that for sure then pitch it.

+1, except I didn’t know that food expiration dates appeared in the 70’s. It makes sense that manufacturers are conservative on dates to avoid complaints and boost sales.
