Do private schools really look at test scores/ability or is really just about connections?

I know OP said her daughter is going into K, but, the answer to her question is actually, "It depends on what grade you're talking about."

In 7th and 9th grade entry points, it is absolutely about the student and her record and her probable potential/contribution to the academic community.

The student's record is definitely more important than it was in pre-K or K. But unfortunately it doesn't explain 100% of who gets in where. If you looked at who from our K-6 got in where, and why, connections still play some role.

Siblings play some roll in later grade admissions. I think keeping families together is a worthy goal.
