Thoughts on Bari Weiss?

She started her career trying to get professors at Columbia that criticized Israel fired. Her "anti-cancel culture" bit is a just a show.

Some of her views are too much for me. But I’ve never thought I had to agree with someone 100% of the time for them to be a good person. She is a bit smug, but not outside what is normal for contemporary pundits.

Bari Weiss crusaded for years to get Muslim professors at Columbia fired, aka “canceled” because she did not agree with their views on Israel:

I think she’s disliked by a lot of journalists because they can smell her hypocrisy on the issues of “cancelation” and “academic freedom”

Uh no, she doesn’t like virulent anti-semitism that sides with terrorists. I’m actually supportive of keeping these folks with a platform so that we can all see how toxic and abhorrent they are - but it’s not cancel culture to say professors shouldn’t be whipping up anti-Semitic sentiment on campuses.

Cancel culture is even stronger on the right wing than it is on the left - some things the right wing tried to cancel:

Dixie Chicks
Nike and Colin Kaepernick
Ellen DeGeneris
Samantha Bee
Beyonce
Starbucks
Disney
Target
Gillette
Keira Knightley
NFL
Bud Light
Levis
Ben & Jerrys
Coca-Cola
Pepsi
M&Ms
Netflix
pre-Elon Twitter
Google
et cetera et cetera

At one point in time, I think I read something she said, but now I don’t remember.

Well, she left legacy media. None of her fellow journalists could stand her. Not because of her critical thinking skills, but because she was impossible

Oh, so she’s like a right leaning Kathleen Parker. Now I get it.

Individuals who intentionally conflate criticism of Israeli policies and actions and “siding with terrorists”, like you, are generally repulsive and cannot be part of any serious discussion on the subject.

She first became widely known when she was a Columbia undergrad trying to cancel Rashid Khalidi for being too pro-Palestinian, so I don’t know that she actually has strong feelings against cancel culture or if she just doesn’t like it when people she agrees with are canceled.

Love her!~

She's an islamophobe and an arabophobe. But that's okay because apparently in the US that's fine.

I have just never found her to be the independent or critical thinker she claims to be. Contrarian, maybe. But contrarianism isn’t the same as critical thinking or real independence.

No, she isn’t awesome.

She sucks because she is one of those mainstream liberal democrats. She is not progressive.

She is awful, her takes are bad, and I am not a fan!
