SY25-26 calendar - last day weirdness

But they truly don’t care. Apparently the opening session of the PD day on Friday included a suggestion about showing your commitment to students by working for free on Saturdays. They don’t care that there aren’t enough hours in the day to do our jobs.

DCPS is the worst district I've ever worked in. It's been two months. I've worked in MANY districts due to my husband being military. Impact is a joke. I've never worked for a district asking for so much with getting so little back in return. They wonder why there's a constant teacher shortage? There's so many districts nearby we could work in. I'd take the paycut to have a sane working environment. DC council just seems to pride itself in "no tenure=better teachers". Nah- no tenure= shortage and desperate people who need money.

It’s not the Council—it’s the mayor. She’s responsible for the schools.

Why in the world do they have a day off in the middle of the week, right before the last day?

They have done that before. Its dumb and lots of kids miss the last day, parents go ahead and schedule vacations or camp that last week,

So after doing some investigating that was a day that was set aside as DC hosting a World Cup game at Fed Ex or whatever it’s called stadium. Obviously, DC didn’t get the game, but I can understand why they would not have school given the amount of people who would be in the city/using the metro would be equivalent if not more than an inauguration. Anyway, I would anticipate that day being a school day when they official roll out the calendar in the spring.

One World Cup game brings that many people into the city? That’s ridiculous. DCPS is kind of a joke.

But DC did get World Cup games. They will be IN DC at Audi Field. Fedex field is in Maryland so would be unlikely to impact any school operations anyway. Audi Field has a capacity of 20,000 so also unlikely to have a Metro impact. Though more fans will probably show up than that, it still doesn’t make sense that they would give a day off for it.

DC did not get real WC games. They got games for this year’s club WC. Very much not the same thing.
