When did you discover you were not a genius?

Almost no one can solve a Rubik's cube. Most people who "solve" it follow a tutorial.

If you memorize the steps/strategies from the tutorial, you can easily solve them…I just can’t be bothered.

My kid can solve them and sadly my kid is far from a genius.

I always thought I wasn't living up to my potential, and now realize I overestimated myself.

Similarly, though I was definitely humbled going from my piddling small town high school to elite college took me down a peg, but realizing I’m just hard working not that smart was in 40s.

Me too. I figured it out on my own as a kid when they first came out. I'm not a genius.

I’m a genius but used my smarts to orchestrate a life where I can be a SAHM and pursue my own agenda. I get a lot done on my own terms, my ambition lies in mothering and my volunteer work.

I breezed through school all the way through grad school. Then I just stopped. Lots of my friends went to law school and med school and I just didn’t have it in me. I’ve done something I enjoy but is not intellectually challenging and my brain hasn’t kept up with theirs. So if I was really a genius (which I’m not) I would have stayed curious and eager to learn. I’m not that way at all anymore and haven’t been for a long time

It didn’t take me much longer than nine years to figure out that having an IQ of 140 really sucked in a lot of ways.

There's an easier way. My six year old figured it out. He simply took all the stickers off and rearranged them so that everything was "solved."

It took us a very long time to see that the stickers were crooked. In the meantime, grandparents were called. A lot of wonderment at the family prodigy. Six years old! Figured out the Rubik's Cube! Prepare the MIT application!

Obviously the parents aren't geniuses.

I never thought I was a genius but I was hot stuff academically until college. Then I learned I had just been in a smaller pond.

I never thought I was one. I am reasonably intelligent, have excellent executive function skills, and get along with people well. It makes things easy. But genius I am not b
