Bishop O’Connell from Mont County

I take the outer loop from 270 to either Clara Barton or the GW Parkway. Some days it’s fine, other days it’s awful.

Have you looked at St Vincent Pallotti in Laurel? That might be a better quality of life for you

Depending on where in SS OP is located, SVP maybe as long of a commute or longer to DJO.

You want to do that? To go to O'Connell? That's crazy talk Karen.

You may want to budget for the bus for 2 years, and then drive a reasonably priced car in junior and senior year?

A lot of DJO students do live 30 minutes away or more. Your kid will be fine. It sounds like you need to just do the math. You have to plan for things like after school events and a detention here and there. Have a B plan for when the bus isn't an option.

This. Why wouldn’t you look at good counsel? They are basically the same.

Honestly? I’d look at DeMatha instead.

DJO tuition is $10K per year lower than GC. Also, DJO is a diocesan school and under the direction of the Arlington Diocese while GC is a Xavarian school. That makes the mission of the schools a little different.

Please explain the substantive differences.

There’s a couple of key differences - the governance of the school and the educational philosophy. In a diocesan school, the diocese and ultimately the bishop, is in charge. In DJO’s case, it’s the Diocese of Arlington, which is one of the most conservative diocese in the nation. A school run by a religious order is governed by the order. The Xavarian Brothers focus on a philosophy based on their values of simplicity, humility, zeal, compassion and trust.

You likely won’t see a lot of major differences, but there will be subtle differences that matter to some people.
