Unclear Email from Titan School Solutions

I got that too - sometimes DCPS is just comically bad. It looked exactly like a phishing email but I opened it because I figured it could be DCPS doing a comically bad job again. And it was. (And they reversed my child’s first and last names.)

My child has never purchased a school lunch, ever. We are no longer enrolled in a DCPS school, and our previous school wasn’t on the list… and we got the email. I share your concern.

I am going to guess they sent the correction to students enrolled in Title 1 schools and did not send the correction to other students.

Dear DC Public Schools Families,

At DC Public Schools (DCPS), we are committed to offering healthy and nutritious meal selections for our students and school communities.

On Wednesday, October 2, you may have received a letter erroneously sent by DCPS’ Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) Team using the district’s federal compliance and nutrition programming software, Titan School Solutions, stating that the district is implementing a new option called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which provides free breakfast and lunch at schools located in low-income areas. CEP is not a new option within DCPS’ implementation of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program, and I want to apologize and acknowledge that the message contained missing details and misinformation resulting in confusion for our families.

As a reminder, all DCPS schools provide breakfast free of charge, regardless of the school’s CEP status. However, for the CEP schools listed below, lunch is also provided at no cost to families.

If your school is not listed in the above graphic, that means the school does not have CEP status. However, we want to ensure that families are aware of available opportunities that provide student lunch at a free or reduced cost. For that reason, FNS encourages income-eligible families to apply for Free and Reduced-price Meals (FARM). In addition to free or reduced lunch, the confidential application may also qualify families for the following benefits:

Waived college test and application fees

Reduced-price internet

SUNBucks benefits for summer grocery purchases

The FARM application is available in 27 languages, is quick and easy to fill out, and provides automatic eligibility notifications. You can also complete the application throughout the school year if your financial situation changes.
