Can someone please explain the difference between American and National like I'm five? |
I didn't read this yet, but here's an older article explaining the divisions:
https://volleymob.com/everything-need-know-five-junior-national-divisions/ For what it is worth, I think there are at least seven divisions now, with the additions of Liberty and Freedom. |
The ELI5: National and American refer to the RELATIVE competitive level of two teams. The National team will generally be more competitive than the American team. Its important to note that the comparison is generally only relevant within a club. Just because Club A has a team they say is National and Club B has a team they say is National, doesn't mean the Club A's team and Club B's team are equal. What gets confusing is some clubs use National to denote their top team, but that team may or may not be competing at the top levels of competition. Most of the top clubs use the term "open" to distinguish a team that competes at the highest level in CHRVA. So a better way to consider the competitive level of teams is to think about Open->National->American being the ranking heirarchy. On this board, when we talk about "Open" teams, we really are only talking about the three teams that regularly compete at that level at USAV qualifiers. There are another 10-20 teams in the region that compete in open at travel tournaments regularly. |
Same here, but I think we're on the other side of that divide. Looking for a regional club in NoVa at the same level as XFactor/No Panic. BRYC is likely out of reach, no sure about St. James. |
Isn't St. James supposed to be super competitive? |
Honestly don't know. I've heard every possible rumor about their vb clubs. Would love to hear perspectives from anybody who's had their DDs play there last year. I thought Alexandria Titans might have been an option, but the website seems abandoned and nobody's been answering their email address. |
Is BRYC hard to make? Looking at younger ages. |
Have you gone to the clinics and ask the coach/assistant coach there? |
How old is your daughter? Volley Viet might me good and is having U13, U14 and U17 |
My DD has never played for the STJ, but has played their top team (Navy?) in her age group a number of times over the past few years and they have been decent, but not great. I think the STJ would like to be more competitive, but they haven’t been able to attract and retain the players needed to get there. |
Titans had some tryout info up last night when I checked. |
