Sounds like these kids need recess, movement, and outdoor time! |
Admin should stick the kids who cause the issue in lunch detention and let the rest of them eat lunch in peace. |
Unfortunately, it may then become an "equity" issue if the kids causing the most problems are anything like our majority minority public elementary was. Must have equal numbers of every kind of kid or the system is unfair, right? |
I thought that APS brought recess back to MS. I was wrong. |
I see nothing wrong with this. Mindful lunch is a good thing. If the teachers were bothered by the volume then I bet other kids were, too. My daughter (10) is very sensitive to loud noises. |
Most of the middle schools let them outside during lunch now, which can effectively serve as recess. But it's been raining. |
Phones are away during the day but Snapchat was a-buzz last night with the boys planning their "quiet lunch" revenge for punishment directed at some of their friends.
(I took the phone away for an undetermined amount of time.) |
This is so crazy. They said they wanted to kids to socialize more in person, then they blocked them from doing just that? |
Not sure about other APS MS but Swanson in particular has at least a few rules in place regarding lunch. You can’t eat outside because it will attract mice, once done eating you can go outside but you can’t sit down outside - you have to keep walking. When my son tells me these things I imagine a prison yard. Maybe he’s embellishing. I’m sure the noise gets overwhelming. I’m sure there are boys AND girls who run around and cause a scene while eating. There’s too many kids at the school. When I was a kid they punished the offender. Now everyone has to suffer punishment because there’s too many offenders and they can’t figure out who is and who isn’t the problem. There’s really no good way to handle it. But again it goes back to the fact that there are too many kids at the school. So there are rules in place you’d never see at a smaller school just for crowd control purposes.

Sorry, what were they planning? I’m confused by the wording. |
