Not sure what lesson there is here other than some teachers apparently wanting kids to come to school when they're sick. |
Wait—you are saying that my kid should have gotten the quiz from the kids that took it while he was out??? Isn’t that academic dishonesty? I thought the purpose of allowing a limited number of retakes was to allow a kid to learn from mistakes and be able to demonstrate that they did so. Seems super unfair to penalize a kid for being out sick by taking that away, especially when they missed instructional time prior to the quiz. I thought teachers wanted us to keep kids home when they are sick so the teachers don’t get sick? When you penalize kids in this way for being out sick, it really seems like the message is that if they can drag their sorry butts out of bed, we should send them to class. |
And apparently also thinks they should cheat by asking other students what was on quiz??? |
Are you really a teacher? It’s wild to suggest that they get the quiz from their friends. And it’s very crummy of you to punish the child for needing to prioritize tests and quizzes and make ups. |
+1. Teacher just doesn’t want to write a 3rd version of the quiz. AFAIK kid is technically entitled to a RT based on the circumstances you describe. |
Honestly, I don't understand why the teacher would even need to write a 3rd version of the quiz. When I was a kid, if you missed a test, the teacher just gave it to you when you came back -- they weren't writing new tests. Do they really think that the kids have photographic memories and are memorizing the specific questions to give to their friend, working through the problem sets to provide all the correct answers to the friend, and then the friend is able to memorize those answers including the backup work so they could transcribe it all onto the test? I just don't see this as a realistic risk. |
| I’ve learned that the grading policy is all over the place. Each teacher has so much discretion on what they can do. My daughter failed a test because of a computer glitch, even though she got every single question correct (and can prove it if the teacher took the time to look at her written answers) but the teacher gave her a 1/10 and said it’s not retakable so you’re out of luck. I’ve had teachers not allow retakes when sick too. I had my son talk to the teacher but she wouldn’t budge, they tend to dig their heels in more. Good luck OP! |
Seriously. "If your kid didn't cheat, it's on them!" |
I'm suspicious, MCPS doesnt use the term summative anymore, it's all task VS practice/prep. I think the teacher missed something, I'd email and explain it, more than likely they'll be able to retake. |
You have no idea the lengths to which kids who are determined to cheat will go and how much easier it is to do so with digital technology. |
Yes they do. Summative means exactly what it says And it is not eligible for a retake. It just goes on the all task category. And again, if people don’t think that kids talk to each other about tests you are definitely obtuse. |
| Did your kid actually do bad on the test? Do they need a retake? Most teachers I am familiar with don’t let you retake unless you have a C or lower |
| Re-take a test?? WTF. More woke nonsense. Get it right the first time. |
Most teachers I am familiar with don’t allow test for retakes. Quizzes yes, but not test. |
That’s not equitable. |
